I have over 25 years' experience enabling children with individual needs in mainstream, independent and specialist schools to be the best they can be.

After working in a special school for children with social, emotional and behavioural difficulties, I started my career teaching English to GCSE and A Level in mainstream classrooms. I then specialised in SEND, basing my research for a masters degree at Great Ormond Street Hospital School. I first became a SENDCo in 2000.

Having also been a Literacy Consultant and Coordinator for several years, I have significant teaching, supportive, leadership and advisory experience for children aged 5-18, their teachers and parents.

~About Me

I am highly regarded as a 1:1 teacher specialising in English, Literacy and dyslexia support, and can help children with processing, attention, sensory or working memory difficulties. I can support organisation for study, exams and revision; addressing core skills, confidence and motivation with success.

Having taught and led in nine different schools, as well as supporting many others, I have been described by children, their parents and colleagues as positive, “unerringly patient” and pro-active. I quickly identify individual needs, discover what makes each child unique and work with their strengths to overcome their weaknesses. I made the decision to work independently because I know I can make a difference without the constraints of the current difficult, slow and under resourced statutory assessment process for children and young people in need of extra help. Whatever their needs, the important thing is early intervention and superb teaching.

"I can’t put into words how grateful and thankful I am for all your help."

"I used to not like English but ever since I met Mrs Parker everything has changed and I love English, she has helped me so much!"
~ A, Year 7
"Thank you for creating a safe place for me and helping me learn."

I also have a 'Reading Dog' Meg available during 1:1 or small group sessions. Meg is currently completing Therapy Dog UK training and has worked in schools since she was a 12 week old puppy. For more information on the benefits of service dogs to assist confidence in reading, click below.
